Investing in Car Dealerships: Doing Your Homework

This article attempts to help give the investor a broader basis upon which to decide whether a dealership merits their time, money and attention.

Interviewing Factories and Financial Institutions

Lenders have an affirmative duty not to promiscuously disclose the financial condition of their debtors. In addition, most Sales and Service Agreements contain confidentiality agreements, with respect to the unauthorized disclosure of a dealer's business. Consequently, questions directed to factories and finance companies should be limited to pertinent, non-confidential questions.

The Buyers Responsibilities

230 Kan. 684, 640 P2d 1235 held that not only was a bank under no duty to disclose information to a borrower intending to purchase a dealership, but that the investor could not avoid responsibility of exercising reasonable diligence for his own protection. See too: 387 NW2d 373 (Iowa) and 773 F2d 771 (7th Cir.) A buyer may not abandon all caution and responsibility for his own protection and unilaterally impose a fiduciary relationship on another without a conscious assumption of such duties by the one sought to be held liable as a fiduciary. 724 SW2d 343

Courts have even held that a seller's accountants upon discovery its client's financial statements were misleading at the time they were given out, had no duty to correct them, even though they were included in a prospectus. See: 513 FSupp 608 N.D. Ga.

The Physical Inspection of the Dealership

Due diligence requires more from a physical inspection of the dealership then searching for defects in the facility, or potential EPA or OSHA problems. A skilled advisor can surmise how well a potential seller is operating by a visit to the facility. Such things as whether the sales people are energetic, or lethargic; the amount of time it takes sales personnel to greet customers; whether the store is clean and well maintained; whether awards plaques are kept up to date, all indicate the financial condition of the dealership.

Public Information

Data can be obtained from public information to determine not only the financial strength of the dealership, but it can also suggest how to structure an offer more attractable to a seller. Sometimes a seller will accept less money because of the manner in which the offer was structured. Determine what a seller needs, then find a way to enable him or her to get it.

UCC-1, title and mechanic's lien searches all supply information without having to seek permission to obtain credit reports and without violating contractual relationships with lenders.

The Fallibility of Dealership Financial Statements

Dealers are required to file financial statements each month. These statements, however, should not be materially relied upon in making projections.

A profitable parts department and a losing service department may mean the service department is doing poorly, or that a strong parts manager is intimidating the service manager into paying too much for the part.

Industry Guides are available for each area of a dealership's operations. Guides, however, are good servants but bad masters. They are prepared by many different groups, using a variety of sources. A prospective purchaser should:

(1) Compare the selling dealer's actual performance figures, to the guides and obtain explanations for any variances; and

(2) Prepare a pro forma statement, based upon expected sales and forecast gross profits and expenses, based upon personal experience, rather than the selling dealer's experience.

(3) Recognize inconsistencies and irregularities in the statements, and pursue a more thorough investigation of those items.

Financial statements do not provide answers about a dealership; they present a method to formulate intelligent questions in order to pursue answers.

Keys to Analyzing Dealership Financial Statements

Basic flags when analyzing dealership financial statements: see our website: http://www.automotiveadvisors.com for a checklist of some basic flags.

Consistency should exist from month to month in each individual account. All inventory and expense accounts should be compared. Note and receive an explanation with respect to major fluctuations.

Buying Without Relying

One buys a dealership without relying solely upon a seller's financial statements in the same way in which a manufacturer opens a new point. Major differences in these approaches generally inure to the buyer's benefit. For example, when opening a brand new store, there will be no existing wholesale parts business, retail sales base; yellow page advertising; or vehicles lined up for service the day after the escrow closes.

Buying an existing business, on the other hand, provides all that, as well as historical versus projected data to use with forecasts.

In addition to reviewing financial statement, three additional questions should be answered before making projections for a new dealership:

(a) the current retail sales volume;

(b) the planning potential, at closing; and

(c) the new rent factor.

With those three figures, one may guesstimate the dealerships earnings under proper management; and, he answers to those questions may be obtained from the factory and a reading of the lease.

Officer, Director and Shareholder Approval

Most dealerships are incorporated, or LLCs, and a check with the Secretary of State or Corporations Commissioner will reveal the shareholders, directors and officers of the corporation, and the members of an LLC. A check of local records will generally reveal a d.b.a., or general partnership, whether or not a partnership agreement or stock has been pledged or encumbered and, if so, to whom.

Information, regarding shareholders and officers should be acquired from sources in addition to the factory, as the factory may not have all the information needed to assure the buyer he or she is actually negotiating with the person who possesses the authority to make a contract. Dealers sometimes have silent partners, or sell an interest in the business without informing the factory. In either instance, a potential purchaser could be misled into negotiating with the wrong party.

You need that information to be sure you are negotiating with the right party. In 796 F2d 345 (10th Cir), Michael Gage, president of Michael Gage Chevrolet, signed a "Memorandum of Agreement" to sell his store. He had no approval from either the Board of Directors, or the shareholders of the corporation. Subsequently, the Board and the shareholders rejected Gage's agreement and entered into and approved a Buy-Sell Agreement, with another party that was consummated.

Gage sued the Board and the shareholders. The state court dismissed and Gage re-filed in federal court. The federal court held that when Gage (the dealer) signed a "Memorandum of Agreement" to sell, he had no approval from either the Board or the shareholders and "without such authority (he) could not validly contract to sell the corporation's assets."

Be aware too: states vary with respect to the number of shareholder votes required. Some require 100%, some a two-thirds vote and some a simple majority.

Attorneys, Accountants, Brokers and other Automotive Advisors

Attempt to determine the other party's advisors and whether they possess talent; are knowledgeable with respect to the automobile business; and their reputations for veracity and keeping their word. After an investigation is completed, a decision should be made whether or not to proceed. Some purchases are better avoided, regardless of the attraction.

Questions to Ask about the Business

Why did the Dealership Fail or Succeed?

As in "Valuation of Dealerships" (a topic for another article), the critical question is not whether a selling dealership's financial statements reflect a profit or a loss, but rather why?

The fact a financial statement shows a large net operating profit and a large number of vehicles sold is not enough answer to answer why it is profitable. See our website (automotiveadvisors.com) for a checklist of questions. The questions must be answered before projecting whether new management will make a profit and before deciding upon a reasonable offer for the dealership.

Actual Sales vs. Planning Potential

Planning potential is important for several reasons, such as vehicle allotment, build-out allotments, capitalization requirements and reasonable expectations. A low planning potential and high volume sales may mean the working capital requirements are unrealistic. It is almost impossible to be profitable when a dealership is capitalized too high, or too low.

When questioning the factory about planning potential, not only inquire as to the number, but also as to the manner in which the planning was derived, the date it was determined, when it is expected to be updated, whether it reflects actual sales in the market area and if not, why not.

Area of Sales and Service Responsibility

The dealership's area of geographic sales and service responsibility is important both with respect to surrounding dealers, and with respect to whether or not the factory intends to close an open store, or open a new store. Past service and sales numbers will be of less value to future projections if the factory intends to add or delete points.

Inquire of the factory, as to what the planning potential requirements would be, taking into consideration the newly closed or opened point.

Significant Document Checklist

Although some of the following items are more important when dealing with a stock sale, versus an assets sale, visit our website (automotiveadvisors.com) for a list of documents the prospective purchaser should have his or her advisors collect.

In addition, the advisors should be certain to verify addresses on insurance policies, as we have encountered instances where the address being insured was not the address where the dealership was located.

Finally, the appropriate advisors should have an understanding of past, pending and potential litigation, DMV, factory and finance company problems, along with any settlements, payment of sales taxes and whether or not favorable state unemployment insurance rates may be transferred.

Elliott Wave Free Resources

Elliott Wave theory is much richer than deciphering charts. In the same way that numerals are descriptive symbols of how physical things relate to each other through mathematics, Elliott Wave charts are descriptive symbols of how markets relate to the social mood of the many participants. Robert Prechter and his talented team at Elliott Wave International are the best in the business at explaining how and why markets and people fit together to shape the patterns we call the Elliott Wave.

Many forex traders, stock traders and futures traders are aware of Elliott Wave analysis but think it too difficult and time consuming to learn and integrate into their regular pattern of technical analysis. Nobody who has been trading for a living for a while has to be told that there is no such thing as a free lunch. Everything worthwhile takes time and effort and Elliott Wave analysis is not the exception. However, applying the Elliott Wave is not as difficult as you may think. There are only a few rules and guidelines to learn. Many people make it more difficult than it has to be, or expect too much from a simple technical tool. Who doesn't want the magic bullet that is unambiguously correct 100% of the time - even when we all know that it does not exist?

Elliott Wave International (EWI) has since its inception been a tremendous education resource for the technical trader. Their educational programs are administered through Club EWI which offers free technical analysis videos, ebooks, and articles about Elliott Wave, of course, and also several other technical methods and disciplines. Both the newbie and the experienced trader looking for continuing education will benefit from Club EWI's illuminating Elliott Wave tutorial.

At the date of this writing Club EWI is offering a free 8-minute video on Forex trading, EWI's Chief Currency Strategist Jim Martens walks you step-by-step from identifying a possible trade setup to executing the trade, PLUS shows you how to spot one of the basic Elliott wave patterns in forex charts, and one of the ways Elliott helps you to limit your risk while trading.

Another free report teaches you how to identify trading opportunities by utilizing Fibonacci techniques and the Elliott Wave Principle. With their illustrative examples, you'll see why knowing where a corrective move is likely to end often identifies high probability trade setups.

A free 75 page eBook promises to show you a whole new way of thinking about investing. The authors handpick five of the most groundbreaking reports EWI has ever published in the 27 year history of Elliott Wave International and compiled them into this eBook. The hard facts and price charts in these reports challenge conventional beliefs and offer explanations for market behaviors that have always been considered "inexplicable." Normally, youd pay over $100 for the reports contained in the Independent Investor eBook, but today you can download them free from Club EWI.

This small sample of stimulating offerings from Club EWI should inspire you. EWI's talented writers take pride in outdoing themselves, and as much as you liked this weeks materials, next weeks will ignite as much interest and information.

Why Forex Market?

Forex, FX and the Forex market are some widespread terms you would have heard for the Foreign Exchange market. In fact it is the major economic market in the globe, where currency is vended and purchased liberally. In its current situation the Forex market was started in the seventies, while free swap rates were initiated, and only the members of the marketplace decide the cost of one currency next to the other happening from requirement and supply. To the degree that the liberty from any outside control and free rivalry are concerned, the Forex market is an ideal market.

With an every day income of over trillions of dollars, the Foreign Exchange market carries out more than two times the collective quantity volume of the United States Equity and Treasury markets amalgam. This market is an over-the-counter market were purchasers and disbursers carry out foreign exchange trade by making use of different modes of communication.

Because the Forex market dont have a bodily exchange, the market actually trades without any stoppage moving to each of the worlds chief fiscal centers everyday. Forex Signals 3

Timing is the key in the markets. You might have heard of this several times that the market indicators are used to predict the entry. The better the timing of these signals and indicators, the better the edge of the trader. Market edge is what you need when you are looking for the forex signals.

The observation of the signals start by looking at a singal bar on the daily chart. According to the Dow theory, an uptrend is a series of ups and a down trend is a series of downs. Keep it simple. This is what you should look for timing the markets. Up closes with good follow through and volume is required to see if the market is in an uptrend. The same process is true with down trends when the closes are down and the volume is good. As the volume dries, you will see that the bars shrink in size or in other words the range shrinks.

Another question is why the range shrinks and expands differently in the forex markets? It is true with other forms of markets also but commodity and future markets are more volatile sometimes. The answer is not simple and will require pages and pages of examples and analysis but I will try to explain. When there is range contraction, there are two basic reasons. One there is an absence of big players in the markets and the floor traders are active at this point. This point is further explained by the shrinking of the range after the New York close around 4 to 5 PM EST. This is when the big institutions close. The time the market expands again is around 2 AM EST when the banks open in London and Asian counties link Singapore and Japan. So the big players are required to move the big markets like forex.

The other reason is the auction theory which says that the market auctions up till it finds a seller and the market auctions down till it finds a buyer. The spikes in prices are the areas where forex markets rush up and down to find buyers in down spikes and sellers in up spikes. This is the reason why the spikes are over 50% areas of exhaustion. We will continue our discussion on market timing signals. I hope you have understood the basic concepts in the three articles on forex signals.

11 Top Stress Busters in Pregnant Women (Part 1 of 2)

You have been waiting for a long time to get pregnant. You feel so happy with this and want to take care of this pregnancy very carefully. One of the most important things a pregnant woman should avoid is stress. Therefore, you need to discover the ways to stay out of the things that can cause stress during this important time in your life.

If you find out that stress is affecting you, you need stress busters. Remember to get plenty of rest, drink plenty of water and take some you time out of each day. You can also:

1. Cash in your vacation time

Or take an extended weekend just to refresh and recharge your batteries. Having time to walk along the beach or play golf or even to stay inside and read a great book without interruptions can help us recharge our batteries. When the baby comes, your number one job is to be Mom. So, you will not have much time for yourself, at least not in the beginning when the baby depends on you for everything. When you are refreshed, you are more effective and productive anyway. You will also be easier to get along with, and it will be easier for you to deal with others (even the difficult ones!).

2. Read a good book!

Reading magazines, novels and non-fiction books are very relaxing for many of us. We all need time to think and relax, so get a library card or a frequent buyer card at a favorite bookstore and stock up on good reads.

Book clubs are also a great place to meet other adultsyou will need a haven of supporting friends once the baby comes, so cultivate friendships and carve out a niche in groups now.

3. Treat yourself to a prenatal massage

or deluxe pedicure at one of your areas finer spas. As you start to get bigger, and your breasts become tender and your ankles are swollen, nothing will sound better to you than a long massage. Just make sure you let your masseuse know you are pregnant, especially if you are not showing, since he/she will need to know in order to serve you best.

If you cannot afford to spare the time or extra money, however, ask your spouse to give you a nice massage and foot rub. He might even paint your toe nails if you ask nicely!

You can also indulge in a long, relaxing bath soak with some sweet smelling bubble bath, which you can find at any bath specialty or discount store. It is absolutely necessary to take time to pamper yourself, since you will be busy, busy, busy after your bundle of joy arrives.

4. Exercise, but dont overdo it

Take a brisk walk through a scenic park or even around a shopping mall. Walking is great exercise that will not cause you to over exert yourself. Of course, you should also drink plenty of water and stay well-hydrated, especially if you are walking outdoors or in humid areas. And never go into woods or desolate areas alone.

Exercise can help you strengthen your muscles, which makes labor easier. Further, exercise helps you get your stamina and energy levels upwhich will be necessary once baby arrives.

You might also enroll in a water aerobics class, which is relaxing and can also prepare you for labor. Just dont get into any hot tubsthats not good for you or the baby.

Exercise also helps you clear your head and relieves stress. Additionally, if you are used to exercising, it will make it all the easier to lose your baby weight after the birth of your child.

5. Meditate or pray

Turning to a higher power is very beneficial in feeling like you are not alone. Take time to ask for blessings and to be thankful for the gifts which have been bestowed upon you.

Also, do not be afraid to be brutally honest; what you say or think is strictly between you and the higher power. And, if you need to revel in a good cry every now and then, go for it. Crying is physically good for you from time to time, because it allows you to eliminate old worries, fears and stresses.

6. Volunteer!

Helping others is a big stress reliever, so whether you are tutoring underprivileged children or walking dogs at a local humane society, you are releasing stress. Helping others gets your mind off your own troubles and allows you to see that things could be worse. You also get the chance to be thankful for the opportunity to assist others when you volunteer (someone who gives of themselves will most likely see that kindness returned).

Whatever you decide to do, you will love the feeling you get from helping others, either people or animals. It is very reinvigorating to know that small efforts can lead to big results. ** This article will be continued at Part 2: 11 Top Stress Busters in Pregnant Women (Part 2 of 2). **

Getting Started with Options Trading

If you are just getting started with options trading, you may feel a bit overwhelmed, since there is a wealth of available options and a multitude of ways to trade these same options. However, if you are determined, you can implement options trading as a successful investment strategy. You only need to realize what your ultimate goal is and what you hope to accomplish.

Since options trading can take on multiple roles in an investment portfolio, it is imperative that you have clear aim and focus before employing this particular method of investing. For example, your goal may be to protect your investment portfolio if the market takes a turn for the worst, or perhaps you have decided that you would like more income from your stocks. Whatever your goal or strategy is, it is essential to have one.

The next step, after deciding what you hope to achieve with options trading, is to begin learning about different options trading strategies so that you can implement a strategy or combination of strategies that will prove effective for your investment goals. There are a many strategies available for trading options, but the ones you implement will depend on what you hope to achieve.

After you have done your research, you are almost ready to begin trading options. Now you will need to choose a brokerage firm. The brokerage firm you choose will depend on the level of personalized service that you will require. If you are not yet quite comfortable with investing, you will do best to choose a firm that will guide you along as you master options trading. If you are pretty comfortable with your knowledge level, then you may choose to go with a discounted firm that does not offer the same level of personalization as the more expensive firms.

Before you begin trading options, you will be required by your brokerage firm to fill out and submit an options trading agreement. This form is used by the firm to ascertain your knowledge of options trading as well as your overall investment knowledge.

Your firm will approve you for a certain level of options trading based on the information you provide on the options trading agreement form. So if you are just getting started, it is probably safe to say that you will not be approved for certain strategies at first. This is because some of the strategies associated with options trading are pretty risky for an unknowledgeable person, and the firm uses this as sort of a built in protection feature, for both the client and itself.

Trading stock options can be a rewarding experience, both mentally and financially. However, in order to gain the most from your options trading experience, you must be diligent about your research and willing to continually expand your trading knowledge.

Daniel Beatty, DVM is an option trader that specializes in trading conservative strategies. He runs an informational website and blog providing details on how to trade these strategies along with reviews of the best option courses and books. To take advantage of this great information and more make sure you check out Dr. Dan's site at http://www.conservative-options.com

Internet Forex Trading - Four Tips For Success

Internet forex trading is the latest craze to hit the online financial industry and with good reason. Although the world of Internet forex trading can be extremely confusing for the novice, it has distinct advantages over other forms of investment opportunity and can be used to great effect. However, there are certain elements necessary for successful Internet forex trading that individuals with little experience may not know about. There is a fine line between success and failure, and the four tips below will enable you to steer clear of the latter!

Tip 1 Do your research!
There is nothing worse than going into Internet forex trading with your eyes shut. Foreign currency trading can be extremely risky if you have no background knowledge of the various currencies, their activities and, most of all, your ability to trade them online. Internet forex trading requires a lot of work before you are ready to begin, so make sure that you understand what it is and what it can do for you!

Tip 2 Study historical patterns
It is not wise to participate in Internet forex trading until you are able to study historical currency patterns. There are a number of website and book based sources that would be able to give you this information. As Internet forex trading is dependent on the supply and demand of certain currencies, the trends those currencies display are extremely important. If a currency historically remains steady then it is unlikely to make a profit for you but if it is unpredictable then you may lose, and so on.

Tip 3 Keep an eye on the news
The American dollar fluctuations of 2006 and 2007 provides a prime example as to why you should watch the news whilst taking art in Internet forex trading. If you heavily invested in the dollar at the moment, then you may have to hold onto the currency for some time to profit. Economical and political factors do determine the value of various currencies at any given time. The business and financial news may provide the information you need to make a success of Internet forex trading.

Tip 4 Avoid algorithmic trading until you are experienced
Algorithmic trading is one of the current trends associated with Internet forex trading at the moment and involves working to a specific formula when working out the currency you wish to buy and sell. However, this is just an example of how individuals may trade. Novices are best advised to try small trades based on historical perspectives to get to grips with Internet forex trading before trying out more complex methods.

Investments in Spanish Residential Real Estate

With around 2.8 million legal foreign residents in Spain, not to speak of ever-increasing tourism figures, Spain has become a top destination for foreign property investment. The Spanish Ministry of Tourism predicts that more than one million foreigners will set up home on the Spanish coast in the next six years, and this figure is expected to treble by 2025. Now is the ideal time to make an intelligent investment in Spanish property. Low interest rates, a strong economy and a huge demand for rental accommodation is further fuelled by the revolution of internet bookings. Spanish property investment has been popular with investors for a long time and is still the favourite location for investors from the whole world due to many factors. Many investors look to secure a rental income from their investment property and Spain is one of the safest options for rental yields, due to its established tourist industry which over the years has proved it can reliably satisfy this requirement.

Natural and Cultural Factors.
The dream lifestyle is a new priority for northern Europeans who have become disillusioned with the cold climate as well as unhealthy, unsafe and hectic lifestyles.

Spain, particularly southern Spain, offers a fantastic, warm climate year round, allowing for an abundance of outdoor pursuits, such as over 26 golf courses, beaches and an attractive Spanish culture. Spain boasts some stunning beaches and breathtaking countryside which caters for all tastes. Rambling, golf, skiing, water sports and beach life are but a few of the ways in which residents and tourists enjoy the outdoors. An excellent infrastructure is already established. European standards in medical and social security services.

Economic Factors.
Lost confidence in the stock market. More and more people are disillusioned with their poorly performing pension and savings plans, PEPs and stock investments which continue to fall in value daily. Their number one priority has now become the search for opportunities that can give a satisfying return on their investment. Spain still offers value for money and excellent returns. The market remains buoyant and there is little sign of change for the foreseeable future. Despite a slight slowdown, construction continues relentlessly. Bought in the right location, property remains the favourite form of investment.

Property prices in Spain remain a good deal lower than those back home, allowing people to afford a holiday or second home, or indeed relocate to the country and retire early. Spanish properties are becoming more popular as they provide an excellent investment as well as a holiday home. We selected tree investment projects which we present at our website http://www.interproperties.nl/ . Off-plan purchases are a popular investment option for those in the know. You can avoid the full cost of paying for the property by paying in installments and selling the property on for a much higher price prior to project completion. Vast profits continue to be made with shrewd off-plan investment. A large flourishing rental market is offered in Spain and investment in a property with good rental potential can achieve excellent returns. Spain is a top choice for tourists who enjoy a variety of self-catering accommodation, apartments and private villas. Get it right, and you could rent your property out for six months of the year to cover costs and have it for your own use, free of charge, for the rest of the year.

Rising prices seem set to continue for the foreseeable future, in both the popular coastal resorts as well as in easily accessible inland regions. Spain has a stable and mature property market, while prices have risen by 48% in the past three years. Experts predict that prices will continue to rise, albeit at a slower pace than in recent years.

The Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca are two prime investment areas, being the most popular tourist areas. Prices remain relatively high on both coasts but due to huge demand, you could be sitting on a goldmine in the long-term. Buying in Spain is a well-trodden path. There is plenty of expert, readily available advice on the subject and provided you use a good, independent lawyer, your purchase should be trouble-free.

Land for Development/Project Sourcing.
Interproperties Spain fully appreciates the need to find new land investment opportunities in Spain to give investors the best returns on investment. We currently offer some very lucrative hot spots in Spain and will gladly help you set up joint venture opportunities or simply source land opportunities on your behalf.

We operate an ever-increasing network of developers, agents and associated partners who are dedicated, well established and carefully vetted to fulfil an important task: to help our investors to identify the best investment options available in Spain, then to implement investment strategies using a trusted network of competent and reliable professionals. We will provide you with a hive of information on such matters as local knowledge, language, legal technicalities and financial matters to help you in your decision. An improvement in the worldwide property investment climate has enabled us to identify a growing number of large scale individual investors and investment consortiums who constantly look to take advantage of the current hot investment locations in Spain.

All You Need To Know About Stock Investing For The Beginner

What is the secret to being successful at stock investing as a beginner? Nearly everybody has heard stories about people making millions overnight using the stock market. In reality, there are many myths about investing in stocks. It is not always straightforward, sometimes even professional investors need to rely on a hunch. Stock investing can be, however, very rewarding and a lot of fun if you're prepared to take the time to learn about stock market investing.

To make money on the stock market, you are going to need patience, practice, skills, experience and education. It is vital to research the companies you are planning to invest in and find out everything you can about them. To do this there are several sources of information available to you. You can use the media, magazines or browse online for information.

Look for information on mergers, new product launches and acquisitions which might affect the stock price of the company in question. Knowing about such things beforehand can help you to avoid risky stock investing. Check how the company has been performing on the stock market over the past few years, not just how it is performing right now. Make sure you use reliable sources for information and avoid friends with "hot tips" - this is your money, after all and when you are on investing on the stock market you want to make sure you're acting from a position of knowledge. It is a bad idea to just invest in stocks at random. This is like going to a roulette table and putting every dollar you have on red.

You should begin with very small investments. If you start off with a large investment and immediately lose it, this might put you off stock investing for life. Learning the basics, increasing your confidence and getting experience is vital, some people recommend paper trading but in reality if you have not actually risked any money then you do not get a true feeling of stock market trading.

It can be a good idea to invest in a company you have some knowledge about. This will not only make it more interesting to you but you will be able to understand the way the company works and the factors that cause fluctuations in that industry.

Diversity can be a good idea when it comes to investing in stocks. You might not want to risk all your money on one company's shares. Maybe you will want to buy stocks in drug companies, electrical companies and entertainment - or a different combination. Putting all your eggs in one basket might result in losing all your investments overnight. Spreading the investment spreads the risk when it comes to stock market investment.

Do not base your purchasing solely on price. Perhaps a $3 stock may seem like a good idea if the company is doing well and expanding. But a stock costing $300 might bring you better returns. Of course, this does depend on how much you are willing to invest.

You might wish to seek advice from a stockbroker. Stockbrokers can offer good advice and obviously have much more experience than the average stock investing beginner. They do, however, charge fees, so it is up to you whether you want to use a broker or not. They can be useful but are not compulsory.

Perhaps the most important advice for the stock investing beginner is never to risk more money than you can afford to lose, no matter how safe the potential investment seems. There is always a degree of risk involved in stock investing and nothing is 100 percent guaranteed.

Trading Stock Options

What you need to know about online investment - investing made easy?

Trading stock options are an easy and quick way to make money. Stock markets are an indicator of the health of the economy of a nation. A rising value of the stock market is determinant of a prospering economy. Initially trading was done by stock brokers on the behalf of people on the floor of the stock exchange. However, with the advent of the Internet, now stock market trading can be done online.

Online stock market trading allows a person to be in touch with the latest stock market developments while sitting at his place. All the necessary details about day trading are provided on the Internet. All a person needs for online stock trading is a computer and an Internet connection, and an online account to register themselves.

The best part of online stock trading is that online brokers charge a nominal amount in trading. However, certain things should be kept in mind while trading online. One should be careful in selecting the company for investing purposes. The selected company should be reputed, decorous and trustworthy. An investor should check the quality of expertise and services offered by a company. Also, examine the payment mode that it has made use of in the past. In addition to the payment mode, find out about the services provided by them, commission rates and the way they handle accounts. Enquire about the financial status of the company before investing in it. These trading companies keep their investor updated with all the developments of day trading.

Also, an investor can invest as per his comfort and desire without any limitation. An investor can invest in the stock market of any part of the world while sitting at his place. All the brokerage expenses and minute trading information is mentioned in the site. The information present is enough even for an inexperienced person to invest in the stock market. The services of an expert brokerage are important as an investor can not directly invest in the stocks. The investment is made through brokers who are members of the stock market.

Some of the other benefits of online stock market trading are :

  1. An investor can save a lot of time and money. He can invest as per his convenience.

  2. The charges of brokers range from $3 to $1 per trade.

  3. A trader can contact expert brokers in case of any guidance.

  4. Trading accounts can be accessed easily, and are provided with latest information on stocks.

However, an investor should be sure about the stocks in which he wants to invest. This is because, only if a person is sure, will he link himself to a particular site. For instance, if a person inclined to invest in the domestic market opens a site of the foreign market, it can be confusing.

It is important that the site on which an investor opens an account be secure, as personal and financial information has to be mentioned on the site. In case the site is insecure, it can cause information to be misused. Also, compare the fee charged by various investment sites before choosing one.

How Do They Do It?

The secret of Chinas startling economic growth during the past decade is nowhere to be found in Confucius teachings. The Chinese economy has grown at a steady 8 percent per annum and 2006 promises to be no different. This is roughly three to four times the rate of a typical western advanced economy, even when the latter is working well. What is even more startling, manufacturing production in China has gone up 16 percent in the last six months alone! So the question of the year for us poor capitalistic trainees has got to be: how do they do it?

When confronted with this question, politicians here in North America on both sides of the border are typically of no help at all. The standard response muttered is that China has a lot of catching up to do. This, of course, is a non-answer. We all know that they are catching up or we wouldn't have asked the question in the first place. Besides, who is doing the 'catching up'? Is it the government? Or the entrepreneurs? Or the people? The most extreme responses I can remember have been rendered by two top politicians, one American and the other Canadian. When asked the question of Chinas explosive rate of growth last July, Vice-president Dick Cheney said, well, absolutely nothing. Pure silence. I think in acoustics they refer to it as white noise. Which, by the way, should not come as a surprise to anyone since the Vice-president is an expert only in the field of Halliburtons Economics, which these days seems to be expanding at pretty much the same rate of growth as Chinas. On the opposite side of the spectrum, instead, lies the glorious response rendered by former Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin. Contrary to the American Vice-president, Mr. Martin embarked in a five-minute tirade on national television which, however, was given in French, so that we common mortals kind of missed the gist of it all.

It seems to me that none of Chinas entrepreneurs, people and much less their government are trying to 'catch-up'. None of them has any means of knowing on a daily, monthly or even annual basis whether they are 'catching up' or not. Economic development is not a race. Nevertheless, something is happening. There's some extra vitality in China, which we have either lost or never had. The real answer, of course, lies with the cause of all economic growth - demand. And in the case of China, it is specifically the quality of demand that counts. Consumers all over Asian countries are buying as many status goods as they can and as quickly as they can. Unlike consumers in western countries who have bought status goods as they appeared one by one over the course of the last 200 years from the onset of the Industrial Revolution, and incorporated them successively into their culture as ordinary possessions, Asia is seeing the whole catalogue of brand new status goods from cars to electronics, from clothes to real estate developments - simultaneously. And China, the most populated of all Asian countries, is at the forefront of it all.

Of course, just like everything else, these expansion times of the Chinese economy are destined to come to an end. When Chinese consumers finally will manage to buy all the status goods of the West - as the Japanese have done - then they will be in the same predicament as Westerners are today in not knowing what else to spend their money on. Or else they wont have the time or energy available for using any more goods because they will be so darned tired of traveling back and forth to work every day and, besides, TV will take care of whatever few hours they will have left for leisure.

As in all sustainable economies, the trick is to stimulate demand so as to stimulate production. Failing this, well, here we are then. That's the problem that politicians in Japan, Europe and America are facing right now.

Stock Research - Hedge Funds - If Bear Stearns Doesn't Know - Who Knows?

As the hedge fund world becomes bigger and bigger as more and more hot money seeks the elusive alpha of maximum performance, it is becoming apparent that more and more newspaper space will be devoted to hedge funds, and private equity. Recent news has taken us into the inner sanctum of Bear Stearns, truly a dominant investment firm in the world today. It might be argued that Bear Stearns is the best managed Wall Street firm in existence. Some might say Goldman Sachs. In any event Bear Stearns would have to be on the short list.

Investment firms for almost a decade sat by and watched hedge funds form, and amass vast investment capital pools while successfully charging 2% management fees, and 20% of the profits. Some of these hedge funds in a few years, have grown to possess capital bases equal to that of investment banking firms that have been around for generations. Taking some of the risks that were involved to achieve this performance is now coming home to roost.

Bear Stearns is the latest firm to stub its toe in the hedge fund industry. The firm is FAMOUS for quantifying and judging RISK before making its bets. This time however it seems that Bear Stearns threw its usual caution to the wind in embracing the formation of two hedge funds over the last year or so.

The second hedge fund was considered a more highly-leveraged version of Bears High Grade structured Credit Strategies fund which was formed last year. Both funds were managed by Ralph Cioffi, who up until recent events took hold, had the reputation of being a MASTER at this game, and the game is the subprime mortgage bond business.

Most people are not aware of it but Bear Stearns is the finest fixed income trading firm on the planet bar none, and this has been true for several generations. This makes recent events even more perplexing to understand.

Jimmy Cayne who is Bears CEO is embarrassed at the very least, and certainly upset enough that there will be major changes in the leadership of the units responsible for the pain being inflected on the firms reputation. This should not have happened at Bear Stearns, thats the point.

Actions Taken and Implications

Mr. Cayne has made the decision to inject $3.2 billion of Bear Stearns capital into a bail-out of the older fund. Bear is also negotiating with the banks that put up the credit facility for the other fund, the highly leveraged High-Grade Enhanced Leveraged fund. What Bear is trying to prevent is the forced sale of the debt obligations underlying the funds investments. These issues trade by appointment as they say, which means they rarely trade at all. Bear knows the Street smells blood, and will take advantage of any weakness that Bear shows.

So what are the implications of this latest hedge fund debacle? It clearly shows that the most sophisticated investors on the planet who put their money into hedge funds may in fact have NO IDEA what they are investing in. Instead, they are betting on the institutional reputation of the firms standing in back of the hedge funds. In this case nobody knew more about this market segment than Bear Stearns, yet they caught in a terrible position.

This is not Caynes fault, but as CEO, it is always his responsibility. I believe him to be the finest Wall Street executive of his generation. Nevertheless, his underlings certainly let him down, and they are among the highest paid people in the world today. Some of these industry veterans are drawing $10 million dollar annual incomes. Let the investor beware is the rule of the day, especially when it comes to hedge funds.

Day Trading Your Way To Success

If you are interested in day trading you first need to know what it is all about and to understand the basics of day trading. For starters, a day trader is a person who is very active in the stock market and makes several trades a day in an attempt to make quick gains by buying and selling stocks in a short time span.

As the market is never the same day to day, no one particular day trading strategy will work each time. To be successful, you first need to understand how the market works and get a feel for the market.

This includes recognizing the stocks' basic trend, the long and short setups, when to enter a trade, and where to place stops. Another very important basic is how to protect your profits and minimize losses.

Once you have learned the basics and are ready to try your first day trade, here are some tips and guidelines you should keep in mind that is essential to your success as a day trader.

Being a day trader requires a lot of time and practice before you get used to the everyday volatility in the market. Do not expect to become an expert day trader overnight. No matter how many books you have read or day traders you have watched, that will not make you an immediate expert.

There are day trading websites that simulate trading. Practice with their trading platform first before trying out the real thing. It could save you a lot of money and you will learn the ropes faster this way.

If you are ready for real live trading, do not be scared by the thought of losing money. There are ways to minimize your loss such as with stop orders.

If you lose money, do not worry, as some loss is to be expected. Just remember, with increased experience and sensitivity to the market, you will start turning a profit soon.

If you profit large sums of money, stop trading. Do not gamble it away by trying to gain even larger profits. You can always trade another day.

Sometimes the market will not perform as you expected. When you encounter this situation, it is best that you do not trade at all.

Once you gain more experience in day trading, you may be able to predict the direction of a stock price. However, try not to pick top stocks or bottom stocks. This is one of the most common mistakes of a beginner.

If you cannot predict where the market is heading, it is best if you stand aside and wait, or you can always go home and trade again another day.

It is a good idea to record all of your day trading results. This way you can learn what works and what does not, and be more effective in trading.

Observe good traders. Look at how and when they sell or buy. Generally, good day traders often buy on bad news and sell on good news.

Beginners often get emotional in their trades. Avoid this at all cost, stay emotionally detached and professional.

Learn to trust your instincts. Relying too much on analysis may mean letting a few good trades slip away from you.

As you gain experience, you will see that different day trading strategies are required on different days and required on different stocks. Be flexible.

Bad day traders often focus on too many stocks that are not manageable and often lose track on where each stock is heading. It is wise to limit your stocks in manageable numbers.

With patience and practice, you can be successful in day trading, and as your experience grows so do your profits. Everyday you can learn new day trading strategies in the market, which you can use to your advantage.

A Beginner's Guide To The World Of Forex Trading

You will undoubtedly have heard of the foreign exchange, or Forex, market and will also probably be well aware of the buzz that currently surrounds it. You may also have heard of the many advantages that it offers over other forms of trading, such as trading on the stock market, and have thought about trying it out for yourself. But just where do you start?

Well, in this short introduction, we'll cover the basics of Forex trading and give you an idea of just what you need to join this exciting and fast growing world.

Until about twenty years ago the foreign exchange was the preserve of large players such as national banks and multi-national corporations. However, during the 1980s, new rules were introduced to permit smaller investors into the market and their entry was facilitated with the introduction of margin accounts. Without going into too much detail here, a margin account means that it is possible to trade with more money than you have in your trading account. For example, a 200:1 margin account would allow you to participate in trading a block of $200,000 with an investment of just $1,000. In other words, it is no longer necessary to have the huge sums of capital available to the major financial institutions in order to trade in the Forex market.

Now, although the entry level has been lowered, this does not mean that Forex trading is easy. The world of Forex trading is complex and, like any other market, it is not without its risks. The first tool in your armory therefore is education. Before you embark on any form of trading you will need to sit down and study the foreign exchange markets carefully. Arming yourself with knowledge about the Forex market and how it works is the only way to ensure that you are making wise investment decisions right from the outset.

Forex traders normally require a broker to handle transactions for them and, as a beginner, you would be well advised to start by finding yourself a good broker. The majority of brokers are reputable and work alongside large financial institutions, such as banks. A reputable broker will be registered with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) as a Futures Commission Merchant (FCM) which is important as this provides you with protection against abusive trade practices and fraud.

Opening an account with a broker is normally a simple process of filling out a form and producing a suitable form of identification and, once this has been done and you have added funds to your account, you can begin trading. Your agreement with the broker will specify the margin on which you are allowed to trade through him and will also normally give the broker the authority to prevent a trade on your account where the broker feels that the trade carries too high a risk. This is simply to protect the broker as, on a margin trading account, you are essentially trading with his money and not your own.

Brokers will usually offer a variety of different accounts to suit individual investors and many will have "mini" accounts which allow you to start trading with as little as $250. Standard accounts will require an initial deposit of between $1,000 and $2,500 depending on the broker. The margin, or leverage, allowed will also vary between accounts.

Most brokers will also have facilities for those people coming into the Forex market for the first time to learn the ropes by carrying out simulated, or paper, trades for a period of time. In this case trading is conducted in the normal manner but no money is involved and each trade simply takes place on paper. This gives the newcomer an excellent opportunity to see trading in action without the associated risks while gaining an understanding of the market.

Many of the online brokers, though whom an increasing amount of trading is being done, have simulated accounts which allow you to make free paper trades for up to 30 days and every newcomer would be well advised to take full advantage of this facility.

Brokers will also have their own set of software tools to assist in making transactions and you should take your time to familiarize yourself with these before launching headlong into trading. In addition, there are several tools that are common to all Forex brokers such as real time quotes, news feeds, technical analyses and charts, and profit and loss analyses and you will also need to acquire a good basic understanding of how each of these can be used.

One final point to remember is that trading in the Forex market is free of commission and so, unlike many other markets, you can make several trades in the course of a single day without worrying about running up huge brokerage fees. The brokers will make his money from the difference between the buying and selling price on each transaction.

How to Start a Debt Reduction Plan

Whether you simply want to pay off your mortgage or car loan sooner, or youve run up a huge pile of credit card debt, starting a debt reduction plan is always a good idea. Follow these five steps to setting up your own debt reduction plan:

1. Find out where your money is really going. You cant cut your expenses if you dont understand where youre spending your money in the first place. Pull out all of your receipts, credit card bills, and bank statements for the last 3 6 months. Make a list of everything you spend money on, by breaking things down into categories (food, entertainment, clothing, travel, bills, interest, taxes, etc.). Then figure out what percentage of your income is going towards each group of expenses. While you cant change certain expenses, you can change most of them. Decide what general areas you can cut expenses in, and which areas you should be spending more money on.

2. Trim unnecessary expenses. Now that youve decided what general areas you want to cut expenses in, start looking at specific bills and receipts. Some expenses will be justifiable, and others wont. Just because something was inexpensive, doesnt mean you can justify spending money on it rather than putting more towards reducing your debt. For example, perhaps you spent $80 on a pair of jeans, and $10 on a clearance top you found. At first glance, you might think the $80 expense could have been cut by finding a less expensive pair of jeans, while the $10 expense is easily justified, but thats not necessarily so. If you truly love that pair of jeans, theyre of high quality and will last a long time, and youll wear them regularly, then the $80 expense is justifiable. But if you purchased the clearance top simply because it was cheap, and youll likely wear it only on rare occasions, then that expense is the unjustified one that could have been cut. You need to evaluate the benefit of what you spent the money on versus the benefit you would have realized if you had spent that money paying down your debts.

3. Set a timeline and goals for yourself. Youve already decided where you can cut your expenses. So what should you do with that extra money in your pocket? Each debt reduction plan will revolve around different goals and timelines. Set your own now. For instance, if you have a 30 year mortgage, your goal might be to pay it off in 20 years instead, to save thousands of dollars in interest payments. If you want to pay off your credit card debt, your goal might be to pay off one card completely (and get rid of it) by the end of the current year. Your goals and timeline will be highly personal, so spend some time deciding whats most important to you.

4. Pay the small, high interest debts first. When youve decided on a timeline and general goals for yourself, its time to pick the specific debt to deal with first. The general rule is to start with the smallest debt with the highest interest rate. That usually means a credit card. By eliminating a small high-interest debt, youll cut down on the total interest youd pay over time, and by choosing a small debt first to eliminate completely, youll free up those regular payments to go towards a larger debt later. Once that small debt is paid off completely, keep paying those monthly payments, but pay them towards your mortgage, car payments, or other large expenses.

5. Reward yourself with savings. As you reduce your debt, make sure theres something in it for you (although for some, the peace of mind may be enough). One of the best ways to reward yourself is to set up a savings account, money market account, or some other kind of interest-bearing account with the money you used to put towards your debts. For once, let interest rates work in your favor, and when a large expense comes up youll have funds to draw from (whether it be an emergency or a pleasant vacation). You wont need to rely on creditors when you can rely on your accumulated wealth.

Strategies for Life Settlement Investment

Life insurance settlements go hand in hand with death. But, individuals investing in life settlements need to know some strategies before investing in any life insurance settlement simply because death may be imminent, but if its not immediate and you have money invested in a life insurance settlement you may find yourself wishing someone would just roll over and die. Life settlements are interesting investments because you know the face value you will receive from the life insurance policy but you have no absolute answer as to when that will be and how much money you will make/lose in the process. Its a gamble, just like any other investment, but there are ways to make the gamble pay off in your favor more often.

First of all, a life insurance settlement is when an individual sells their life insurance policy for less than face value before they die. Individuals investing in this will want to consider the following tips to ensure they only buy policies that have the best possibility of a good return. Remember as well that the longer a person is expected to live the cheaper the policy will cost. The when aspect of death is what has many investors wondering about life insurance settlements and whether or not they are good options. Illness, life expectancy, and new technologies that could extend life should all be considered when looking into life settlements.

The first strategy is to make sure you only work with a broker who represents the buyer. There will be less risk of a conflict of interest occurring in this situation. The next step is to talk to your agent and tell them what you feel comfortable investing in and what you dont. If you only want to invest in terminal cancer patients that is your decision and your agent will help you find those kinds of life settlements. Be sure your agent is aware that you only want to invest in life settlements from A+ rated insurance companies. You dont want to invest and the person die and then you cant get the payoff. Finally, make sure the policies you buy are at least two years old. New policies may be part of a scam not to mention insurance companies may not pay the face amount of the policy upon death if the policy is less than two years old.

Natalie Aranda is a freelance writer. Life insurance settlements go hand in hand with death. But, individuals investing in life settlements need to know some strategies before investing in any life insurance settlement simply because death may be imminent, but if its not immediate and you have money invested in a life insurance settlement you may find yourself wishing someone would just roll over and die.

Mini Forex Trading - Profiting From Forex Trading Without A Lot of Cash

Mini forex trading is a way for people without a lot of money to trade the forex. It's also ideal for fthose brand new to forex trading.

Mini forex trading allows those new to forex trading to get a feel for it wihtout risking the amount of capital you would normally use when trading the forex.

So how can mini forex trading help you to make trading profits?

The reason for the 'mini' is obvious. The forex trading contracts are much smaller than the typical forex trading contracts. Mini contracts are about one tenth the size of a typical forex trading contract.

Mini forex trading is an advisable way to start trading the forex if you are staring with a small sum of money. You can test various forex trading systems without a lot o risk, keep good records on your trades and the result, and refine your trading techniques.

Then, as your trading improves and you build your portfolio, you can graduate from mini forex trading to larger, more typical forex trading contracts with confidence that you have a profitable trading system in place.

You can open a mini forex trading account with a lot less money, usually around $300 instead of the thousands required for a typical forex account. The high leverage available to forex traders still applies but you are obviously risking a lot less money in a mini forex account.

Keep in mind, your money is just as much at risk in a mini forex trading account as it is in a regular account. You just don't have as much at risk to lose. But you can still lose it all, and then some, due to the leverage options available.

This means that you need a trading system in place and you must adhere to that system with iron fisted discipline and not let emotion get in the way and cause you more problems and headaches.

Even in a mini forex account, you still need to know what you are doing and be familiar with various forex trading ideas and systems such as trade signals, proper chart points, targets, stop-loss and more.

With the right strategies in place, mini forex trading can be quite profitable but you need to do your homework before risking your money.

Dividends - Three Special Corporate Forms Bring High Yields

In your search for solid dividend-paying companies, you will frequently encounter three special kinds of corporations. They have chosen to organize themselves under federal laws that allow them to avoid corporate taxation provided that they pay out, or distribute, the bulk of their profits to shareholders. For this reason, these companies appear frequently in lists of high-yielding dividend-payers. All three special forms of companies have ticker symbols, and their stocks trade just as other companies trade.

Here is a primer on these three special corporate forms:

Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs)

REITs were created by Congress in 1960. They come in two flavors: Most REITs are essentially landlords, holding properties from office parks to apartments to shopping malls. A far smaller number of REITs are mortgage REITs, involved in real estate financing.

To qualify as a REIT, a company must distribute at least 90 percent of its taxable income in the form of dividends. Historically, most of the return from REITs has come from these dividends, although many have delivered attractive price returns to boot.

REITs are the only practical way for most individuals to invest in residential and commercial real estate developments. Real estate is often considered to be a distinct asset class (beyond the big three of stocks, bonds, and cash), so REITs offer the investor some diversification benefits. Current dividend yields often are 5 to 8 percent or more, right out of the gate for new buyers.

Note, REIT dividends do not qualify for the 15 percent federal income tax rate on most dividends. They are taxed to the shareholder as ordinary income. That is because the earnings were not taxed at the corporations level.

Master Limited Partnerships (MLPs)

MLPs are also a special form of structure. In fact, they are not corporations at all, but partnerships. By law, their activities are limited to the production, processing, and transport of natural resources, plus some operations in real estate.

MLPs appear mostly in the oil and gas industry. They provide small investors a way to participate in pipeline partnerships and other oil and gas operations that otherwise would not be possible. Because the shares trade, beyond the partnership distributions there is also the usual potential for capital gain or loss.

Every MLP has a general partner which manages and controls the partnership. Shareholders in MLPs (technically unit holders) are limited partners in the enterprise. They own an interest in the assets of the business, which in turn entitles them to dividends and other distributions, and also to benefit from depreciation of the assets of the business.

Taxation of MLPs was established in 1987 by Congress. The partnership does not pay taxes itself, so the distributions sent to unit holders do not qualify for the federal 15 percent cap on dividend income. However, not all of the distribution sent each quarter to unit holders is a dividend. Some of it is a return of the original capital invested. The returned capital, in effect, reduces the cost basis of the investment (as if the shareholder had spent less per share in the first place). Returned capital is not taxed in the year it is distributed, but it is taxed when the unit holder sells the shares. That is because there will appear to be more profit on the sale of the shares, since the returned capital over the years reduced the cost basis. So the returned capital is not, as is sometimes stated, non-taxable; rather the taxation is deferred. When you finally sell those shares, the taxation catches up to the capital returned over time.

Because of their unique structure and tax situation, MLPs must mail an IRS Schedule K-1 to each unit holder every year. This reports the unit holder's share of the partnerships taxable and non-taxable income, gain, loss, deduction, and credits. It is really not that difficult to deal with, and any competent tax preparer is familiar with K-1s.

Business Development Companies (BDCs)

BDCs were created by Congress in 1980 to help provide capital to small businesses. They have been much in the news lately, usually under the term private equity, as there have been dozens of recent deals in which companies have been taken private. That means that public companiessome of them quite largehave been bought in their entirety by private equity companies with huge amounts of capital at their disposal.

Many of these private equity deals have been made by companies which are truly private, but some of the private equity firms have themselves decided to go public, becoming BDCs. (Never mind that the size and nature of the resulting entity and its investments may be far outside the original purpose and spirit of the law.) When a private equity firm is itself public, that means that the individual investor has a chance to participate in big deals that would otherwise not be possible.

The law requires BDCs to at least annually distribute the bulk of their net investment income and capital gains to shareholders. Thus they often have attractive dividend yields. As with REITs, these dividends are not subject to the 15% cap on dividend tax rates for their recipients. And since the shares of BDCs trade, there is the potential for capital gain or loss associated with any public company.

The Benefits Of Investing In ISAs

People are always looking for news ways in which to make cash savings or investments. One popular method of tax-free savings is by opting to save money in Individual Savings Account (ISAs), which were introduced by the UK government in 1999 to replace PEPS and TESSAs. Whether you choose to use an ISA to save cash or invest in stocks and shares, the benefits of ISAs are sure to be diverse and hugely rewarding.

In fact, the advantages of ISAs are numerous. For starters, there is no income tax to pay if you invest in an ISA, a factor which is a particularly strong selling point if you're a high rate tax payer. Under existing tax legislation, people paying higher-rate tax have to pay 25 income tax on every 100 received in dividends on an investment not held in an ISA. Therefore, investing money in an ISA eliminates this cost. And if you're not currently a higher-rate tax payer, investing in an ISA now will mean that if you move into a higher tax bracket in the future, you'll still avoid income tax on your investment.

Moreover, there are no capital gains to pay on an ISA. Capital Gains tax is a tax that is paid to the Inland Revenue on any rise in the value of savings and investments. Over the long term, small but regular payments into an ISA can generate tens of thousands of pounds - therefore, the long-term benefits of eliminating capital gains tax from your investment could be considerable, and certainly worth thinking about in advance.

Additionally, if you hold bonds in ISAs, you can still receive a tax free income. And even if you don't want to invest in bonds at the present time, there is always the possibility that you may want to in the future. In this sense, investing in ISAs is even more beneficial. Furthermore, you won't have to mention your investment in an ISA in your tax return form, which can be an arduous task. Ultimately, investing your money in an ISA means that you'll no longer need to worry about tax on your investment - a factor that is sure to be a huge weight off the mind of any tax payer!

Some of the best cash ISAs can be found in a range of locations, both online and on the high street, from a variety of sources. Many government institutions offer high interest ISAs, and banks and building societies also offer a selection of ISA accounts. But, wherever you choose to make your ISA investment, you can rest assured that the benefits are sure to be plentiful.
